Ask the Swan Specialist

I enjoy your site so much and have asked a question before and you were so helpful. I have another swan concern. I live on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island in New England and we have a lovely pair of gorgeous mute swans who had a baby around the 3rd week of April this year. Only 1 cygnet survived so this baby is an only child. He grew quite fast and large and the last time I saw him, he looked almost as big as his mother!
So, I hadn't seen "our swans" in almost 2 weeks and have spotted the parents twice now this week....without their baby. Is it possible the cygnet is already on his own?
I've become quite enamored with these birds and hate to think anything bad happened to the baby!
Thank you for your help!
